Keto is overwhelming! At first.
Well, yes. As a matter of fact, keto is overwhelming…at first.
I see this comment a lot. And I get it. It is overwhelming at first. I, too, was once reading up on ketogenic diets and felt overwhelmed by the vast differences in how many people are formulating their ketogenic diet and in how it eschews everything I'd ever read, heard, or learned anywhere about nutrition.
And it felt insurmountable. It felt like there was just no way I could possibly figure out who was right, who was wrong, which method(s) may work for me, and which method(s) may not work for me.
Then I thought, actually…everything else I ever learned about nutrition led me here. It led me to look for a way to be healthy. It didn't work, it didn't promote health, and I didn't feel like I had the answers. So, maybe the fact that this goes against everything I'd ever learned before - everything that wasn't working - maybe that was a good thing! Maybe it eschews everything that didn't work for me.
Step 1 Complete!
That was the first step. I had one question answered. But I still had to figure out which method(s) might work best for me, and there are a lot of methods to choose from!
So, I got started. I didn't do it perfectly at first. I ate way too many carbs, I had way too many keto-friendly sweeteners, and I tried to fast way too early in my journey. But it didn't matter. Even not doing it perfectly still got me to a healthier place. It may not have been the world's most perfect execution of keto, but I was healthier, my pants were too big, my shirts were all loose, and I had excess energy I thought I'd never see again.
Better a diamond with a flaw than a pebble without.

Six years later, I'm still doing it. I've made many changes and tweaks and conducted loads of personal, N=1, experiments and not all of them were successful. But I'm healthier! Don't worry if you're not sure how you're going to do every little detail yet. Start by starting. You'll figure out the details along the way.
